James Silliman, M.D., President, Steadman Hawkins Clinic of the Carolinas
Dr. Hawkins specializes in shoulder, elbow, and knee reconstructive surgery and sports medicine. He is noted foremost as a shoulder surgeon and has authored seven textbooks on shoulder surgery that are used throughout the world. Dr. Hawkins is a founding member of the American Shoulder and Elbow Surgeons Society and physician for both the Denver Broncos and the Colorado Rockies. He is a clinical professor at the University of Colorado and at the University of Texas Southwest.
Dr. Silliman leads the growth and development of the Steadman Hawkins Clinic of the Carolinas and serves as the Program Medical Director, Musculoskeletal Health and Wellness Institute within the Greenville Hospital System. Dr. Silliman earned his medical degree from the University of Louisville School of Medicine and completed his residency at the University of Texas Health Science Center.
Research in the Ploehn group explores the relationships among structure, properties, processing, and performance of materials and processes dominated by phase interfaces, especially in nanoscopic and colloidal materials. Dr. Ploehn received his M.A. and his Ph.D from Princeton University.
Dr. Chandler joined USC in 1987 as a post-doctoral fellow in the Baruch Institute. During his two-year tenure as interim dean, the school added a popular bachelor’s degree program in public health and maintained its perennial place among the top three schools and colleges within the University for external research funding.
Dr. Kresovich received his bachelor’s degree in biology from Washington and Jefferson College, a master's in agronomy at Texas A&M University, and a Ph.D. in crop physiology and genetics from The Ohio State University in 1982. Before joining the University of South Carolina, Dr. Kresovich served as the Vice Provost for Life Sciences at Cornell University.
Mr. Hyman has invested over 25 years in helping companies and organizations grow profitably. In 2006, Mr. Hyman left an established marketing consulting practice to work with Dr. Richard Hawkins in the development of the Orthopaedic Research Foundation of the Carolinas. Mr. Hyman also serves as the Business Director of the S.C. Center in Rehabilitation and Reconstruction Services.
Henry Tung, M.D. is the Senior Vice President of Strategy and Business Development for the Biologics and Spine division with Smith & Nephew, where he brings over 20 years of healthcare experience to the organization. Prior to joining Smith & Nephew, Dr. Tung was the Corporate Vice President Global Surgical at Bausch & Lomb where he lead a $5 5 0 M medical device business. Before gaining his Masters in Business Administration from Northwestern University’s J.L. Kellogg Graduate School of Management, Dr. Tung received his Bachelors degree from Stanford University, his medical degree from the University of California School of Medicine and is a Board Certified Anesthesiologist.
Dr. Heeckt is the Chief Medical Officer at Smith & Nephew, Inc., in Memphis, Tennessee. He has previously served as the Medical Director of Fresenius ProServe for Fresenius AG in Oberursel, Germany, as the Director of Blasticon Biotechnological Research GmbH in Kiel, Germany, as the Director of the Surgical Academy, Maquet AG in Rastatt, Germany, and as Medical Director of Orto Maquet GmbH & Co. KG in Rastatt, Germany.
Ms. Whitsitt has a Master of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Memphis and has completed Executive Education courses in business at Northwestern Universitys Kellogg Graduate School of Management and at Stanford University. She is a member of several advisory boards, including the University of Memphis College of Engineering Advisory Council and the FedEx Institute of Technology Advisory Board.
